Sadly this place is no longer the gem, urban baker. We used to visit every week (at least) but since it's changed to pizza place / gelato we were heart broken. I've had the gelato a few times and it's quite good if you don't mind the half-assed service. Today we decided to try the pizza - what a mistake. I should have known when I placed my order and they said that it would be a wait (30 mins) because the oven wasn't quite heated up. But, out of respect for the old place we gave them the benefit of the doubt. Ordered the New Yorker with caramelized onions on one half only, since my better half can no longer eat them...such a shame. So, we bought delicious lattes / cappucinos and went for a stroll through the neighbourhood (this is noon on a Saturday, not sure why your kitchen wouldn't be up and ready by then?). When we returned the pizza was ready. Sadly, the crust was raw (the oven really wasn't heated up, they weren't lying), the onions raw (crunchy, I'm not kidding), and the staff rude. (My favourite line was the one guy to the gal: "you deal with her") In the end we brought the pizza home and popped it into our non-wood-fired oven. Sigh. All in all we will remember the good ol' days of urban baker and try to forget this pizza experience. Sad, I love pizza.
