My husband and I have taken dance lessons here for two years. We are not the swiftest students, but the instructors are very patient, let us learn at our own pace and are always constructive in their coaching. We started lessons to get ready for one of our children's weddings. We are now preparing for the fifth wedding among seven children.. In fact we've bought dance packages for some of the children so that they could have a choreographed wedding dance.
Many of the students are in our age range (later middle age), but there are some very impressive young teens (13-15) at the studio. There are also a few students who are well into their 70s. I was surprised at the number of single adults, particularly single men, who take lessons here. They tend to learn faster than the rest of us because they do more of their dancing with professionals. We work on the classic ballroom dances, such as waltz, foxtrot, tango and cha-cha. But there are also many useful social dances such as hustle, foxy and wedding line dances.
We take one private lesson a week -- sometimes more if we are preparing for Showcase, which is the Arthur Murray version of a recital -- and several group lessons. Arthur Murray has become the hub of our social life, and it's good for us as a couple to work on dance together. The group classes are divided by ability level. starting with Newcomers, so you are always learning with people at about your own level. I had a little bit of dance experience before we started, but my husband had none, and he enjoys it as much as I do. The instructors have been especially good about picking out music that he knows and likes in order to make the lessons more comfortable and enjoyable for him.
I would recommend Arthur Murray South Hills to anyone.
