AZ88 - you're weird.
Like, the strange transplant to your drama class that you can't quite figure out. You're weird. But, I like it.
I'll admit, it took me a second visit to appreciate AZ88. At first, I disliked everything. I felt like they were trying too hard. Like they had an identity crisis. Perhaps they do, but just like your crazy Aunt Theresa that decides to take up pole dancing at 55, you accept and love them for what they are.
AZ88 is simplistic and modern. It's a giant glass window space that feels more art exhibit than restaurant. With changing installations you never know what to expect.
The cocktail menu is fabulous. On trend. On par. And perfectly priced. You can order a giant martini for the price of a 7-11 Big Gulp (well, almost).
If you happen upon a weekend evening you'll be pleased to find a live DJ. This did me and the BF in. This smooth moving DJ was able to blend classic Mo-town with Biggie gangsta rap. And with ease. As music festival junkies-we know good music and good DJ's. And whoever was spinning last weekend needs to get signed ASAP. Dude was perfection. He probably made a few babies that night too!
Food is simple. It's ironically simple. Burgers. Chicken sandwiches. You don't really visit AZ88 for the food. It's the cocktails (massive martinis!) and legendary DJ's. I could see myself hanging here until the wee hours just chilling and enjoying the sights and sounds.
It's an experience. Understand that before you visit and your expectations will change.
