Boyes is a family business based mainly on the eastern side of the country. It's a store that's a bit bewildering to me. They sell practically anything you can think of.it's a very old building and some of the staff look like they have been there forever too! They have a lovely different theme of grotto every Christmas which they spend a long time planning and is always very goodwe took a 5yr old at the end of 2007paid for the photo and gift..which turned out to be a book (he could hardly read then) and it was more suitable for a teenage child, so although the grotto was good the gift let it down considerably so much so we didn't go in 2008. Clothes are cheap and look it, toys are really old, try finding something upto date, you've no chance! In the basement is the furniture dept. it's all crammed together, impossible to look at. It's old fashioned and expensive. Not much care go into merchandising stock.it looks like it's thrown onto the shelves and is like one huge jumble sale.speaking of sales, every time they have a sale it's big news in the local paper (yes, not much happens here!!) people queue for hours before it opens to 'grab a bargain' ....i'd love to know where they hide these 'treasures' that people feel the need to queue for, it's a real jack of all trades butmaster of none!!! If you're looking for something and you've been everywhere else then it's worth a shot, if you don't mind the chaos
