I am so thrilled to find this store! Super G Mart was alright and international supermarket filled in the gaps but this place really reminds me of the grocery stores I grew up with! Of course I am Hong Kongish so maybe I'm a little biased. :) The prices are a little bit higher than what I am used to ($14.99 for 6 oz of small conpoy? Ouch!) but they really do carry things that I haven't seen elsewhere, like lotus paste. The 6.49/lb meat and fish ball bulk assortment was tasty and helpful since I was cooking supper for a mix of omnivores and pescatarians! The produce section looked a bit better kept than the other stores too. Unfortunately I went too early in the morning to really want to peruse the hot bar and bakery, and the BBQ case wasn't stocked yet, which was a huge bummer because I wanted to wreck some roast pork, I can never get the crackly skin right at home. Overall since Grand Asia is about equidistant from where I stay in Charlotte with Super G I think it may become my regular jam since it means I don't have to drive on independence.
