Very authentic Korean food, and very authentic friendly service! I've been to Soyo Barstaurant three times so far, and the food and service has been consistent.
Korean food cuisine is one of my top favorites that I crave, that I've learned to make a few dishes at home (bibimbap, kimchi jjigae & bibimgooksu) But the times I don't want to cook, I drive up the block and over to Soyo. They have DELICIOUS lychee soju that I can't get at home and yummy little sides of banchan (with refills at request).
FOOD
Kimchi jjigae - Spicy and filled with lots of kimchi, the amount of anchovy, kimchi, garlic & gochujang hot pepper paste is perfect. It goes amazingly well with the complimentary barley tea and the portion size along with the banchan and rice is super filing.
Kalbi soup - Nonspicy, but comes with a good amount of beef and vegetables. The broth is a little on the bland side, but adding in extra dippings and hot sauce really makes the broth's flavor enhanced. It tastes fresh too, but I think the Kimchi jjigae is more to my liking.
Lychee soju - Perfect perfect perfect amounts of soju, soda & lychee yogurt! The size and presentation of the soju in a glass bottle is charming and enough to make 2-4 people satisfied. Not pass out drunk, but happy =)
Maa Neul (Tongdak) garlic-chili marinated Chicken Wings - MUST GET MUST GET! After drinking at Oyshi and then at Soyo, we very much enjoyed this greasy, crispy, garlic chili marinated chicken wings. They have lots of meat on them and the serving is I believe 6-8 pieces.
Duk bokki - Large portion of rice cakes, spicier than I expected it to be, so we brought it home and ate it with more rice the next day. Had a soft boiled egg on top and fishcakes. The soft boiled egg was the piece de resistance. Next time I think I'll order an extra boiled egg. Really good!
Bi Bim Gook Soo - Cold noodles in spicy sauce with thinly sliced cucumbers, other veggies and I think it had a soft-boiled egg. Anyway, one of my favorite dishes and something about cold noodle dishes are just refreshing. Must try. And the price is satisfying for the portion.
Overall, my meal was great The service was attentive and they made sure the tables were clean and void of any empty dishes. They refilled a couple banchan that I requested and promptly. I know we spent over the amount that makes you eligible to spin their "Free Stuff" wheel, but we forgot to ask about that. Maybe next time! And next time will definitely be soon.
