Halcyon... when it opened, it quickly became a favorite destination of mine uptown. Lunch or Dinner, the food was always prepared well. Would have easily given 5 stars for food and service. So what lost the star? The restaurant was priced well for quantity of food when it opened. You came away feeling satisfied paying for a fair portion size. Around mid 2013, the menu has not changed drastically, but the portion sizes are just about halved. I'll elaborate below: At lunch, getting the salmon used to mean what you would normally think of in terms of a filet. It would be served over potatoes or a puree. With the new menu, you get half a filet, served over carbs, and now you get a romaine heart. Where's the other half of the filet, how did it turn to lettuce? At dinner, the dessert had a chocolate mousse torte on a hazelnut shell, about 6 inches in diameter. Now it is served in a small 6 oz glass cut with about 5 crushed hazelnuts on the bottom, for the same price. The Monte Carlo sandwich used to be served with a healthy portion of pulled pork, now there's about two-thirds of the original amount. The chicken salad sandwich barely has any chicken salad. Halcyon is still worth going to, just nowhere as frequently.
