On a recent furniture search we decided to give Direct Buy a try. I've always seen commercials for this place and wondered if it was much like a "costco" method of membership. And yes, it is true, you have to have a membership which would be fine to me if you truly get manufacturers deals versus retail but something felt terribly wrong with the way they went about their sales delivery. Let's start with the initial calling over and over again until they reached my boyfriend voice to voice and even then they emailed once again to ensure we were going to show up. Don't get me wrong, I get their time is precious but it already felt like a hard core sales tactic from the get go. Once we go there we had to sit with a man to discuss our "goals" then we proceeded to a 45 minute presentation about how they work with endless drilling of their methods and "how much money they can save us". But it was the message over and over again that I found relentless. It was like we were children. They even had a bit of a scare tactic by having a news anchor (from which news station, I have no idea) STRESS that you cannot resale, tell anyone about prices we see, etc.
When that portion was finally over we sat down with sales guy again (who told us a random story about how he owns a corvette which we're not sure where he came from with that story or where he was going) as he tried to hustle us again into signing into this membership. Now get this, they won't discuss prices for the membership (other than a 5 year membership) until he knew were going to sigh up right then and there. They have others to choose from but he was tight lipped until we agreed. To top it off, if we walked out to think about it we lost all opportunity to be part of Direct Buy. WOW! Talk about bad taste in your mouth.
