It seems most reviewers who have a problem with Mesa usually have a problem with Bobby Flay or the ridiculous reservations process. Thankfully, we were able to make a walk-up reservation and were seated in half an hour. Also, I don't watch Bobby Flay so I have no opinion about what a jackass he is or isn't. Overall, I enjoyed my meal at Mesa and would recommend it. True, it is a pricey meal...I had a glass of wine and the spice encrusted NY strip with pesto mashed potatoes for around $75. However, I've had much more expensive dinners that have completely sucked ass, and I did not expect Mesa to be cheap. My steak was amazing - I have no idea how meat can have so many subtle flavors but this did. Others in my party ordered the twice-baked potato and regretted it once they tried my mashed. My only complaint about the restaurant was that the ambiance was rather weird. The service was prompt and our waiter was knowledgeable, but the ambiance just seemed rather stiff and too formal. If Mesa would just loosen up and not take itself so seriously, I'd give it five stars.
