I really like Custom's design aesthetic: many pieces are an art-nouveau combination of intricate yet simple, which can be difficult to pull off. While there is certainly a range of affordable ($50-$80) items, a majority of what I saw were outside the graduate student's budget range. Still, if I was looking for a unique engagement ring, I would certainly keep Custom in mind.
While I agree that service was perhaps somewhat lacking, once I asked a question he was friendly and gave a few recommendations. Thinking about it, I felt more comfortable here than in other jewelry stores where salespeople are trying hard to make a sell. Here, the jewelry speaks for itself, and I respect that. In the end, I was able to find what I was looking for: a catching circular-swirly silver pendant
As an aside, I found it interesting that Custom practically shared floor-space with a bike shop. I kinda liked it. Is that strange?
