I went inside the Safeway gas station to buy a pack of cigarettes but I was turned away because the lady inside did not believe that my UNITED STATES PASSPORT was a GOVERNMENT ISSUED ID! I don't know her name but today is Tuesday 04-24-18 this happened at like 4 PM. She told me I HAD to have a drivers license. I'm sorry, since when did my ability to operate a motor vehicle determine if I'm eligible to purchase tobacco??? Train your employees!!! I have never ever been told my passport isn't acceptable as identification because it is. There should not be a problem. She told me it was Safeway policy yet when I went inside I didn't have any problems and I didn't expect to since I've purchased cigarettes plenty of times from Safeway until today. I won't be back since apparently your staff doesn't know what a passport is.
