I'm a renter of a house with a pool and spa that the landlord has contracted out Dan Corwin. When my pool pump and heater broke down recently it took them three visits and me video taping the problem before it got resolved. They never notified me when the issue was fixed either. I'm also having another problem. I'm on the Time of Use electricity rates (https://www.nvenergy.com/home/paymentbilling/timeofuse.cfm) and the pool pump is ran during time of use hours. FromJune 1 - September 30, from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. daily. my electricity cost is $0.3608 per kWh. My off peak hours rate is $0.05685per kWh. That means during 1 p.m to 7 p.m my electricity use is 7.2 times more expensive. The pool pump appears to run at 2.5 kWh hours. That means each day from 1pm to 7pm it costs $0.36 * 2.5 kwH * 7 hours or $6.30 to run a day just for the pool. Outside the time period for the same amount of time it costs $0.98. That means I'm paying an extra $5.32 a day to run the pool, and thus $160/month extra. Dan Corwin refuses to adjust the pool schedule to run outside of the peak hours. The scheduling function is locked out unless you have specific hardware. I've contacted other licensed and insured pool contractors and they told me he is being unreasonable in refusing to change the pump setting. The other contractors tell me that as long as the pump turns over the pool once every 24 hours then it should be fine. I've asked my landlord to find another pool contractor and when I become a home owner I definitely won't be hiring Dan Corwin.
