I was in town for business, and this "landmark" restaurant was about a block from my hotel. Seeing as a large portion of Charlotte's Uptown restaurants are closed on Sunday, I decided to go against my initial judgment and give this tourist trap a try.
Unfortunately, my instinct was right. The whole meal was off. I ordered the chicken tender plate with green beans and mashed potatoes. The green beans were too sweet, and the mashed potatoes were so under seasoned that they tasted like a pile of mush. I was happy when I saw the chicken tenders once they're hand breaded in house -- that was until I was on my last chicken tender, and it was a piece of fried fish.... This carelessness by the kitchen staff is unacceptable.
The saving grace was the dessert. They have a great cake display, and the cakes are absolutely delicious. The cakes are the only items that reminded me of good ole Southern cooking.
