I grew up watching foodnetwork tv shows. Throughout the years watching that, along with Anthony Bourdain on Travel Channel and now CNN, I probably had heard the line "this takes me back to my childhood" a thousand times. I never had a mission to find a restaurant to find my personal childhood experience. But I found it. Unexpectedly. Here, at Reathrey Sekong. My parents are from Vietnam; Cambodia and the former share similar flavors and techniques. The pork dish at Reathrey Sekong was 99.9% identical to what my mother would have made at home. From the burnt/caramelizing parts of the pork to the cucumbers! It's truly authentic. The only difference was the nuoc mam - a dipping fish sauce, lacked bits of raw garlic. I'm 1,000 miles away from home (Dallas) and this one, simple dish took me back there...with my mom yelling at me to finish my homework.
