Let's talk bottling. My friend and I bottled 60 bottles of wine last week. It's a 3 step process and it can take a while:
Step 1: Fill bottles via a 4 tap machine (the employees usually help with this)
Step 2: Cork with the help of a snazzy corking machine
Step 3: Dress the bottle, neck and label. You get various colors and labels to choose from. Nothing too fancy. They do sell the fancier kind. Plus, if you are a designer, Wine Labels are easy and fun to make!
Before Bottling:
We tasted the 2 wines - Zinfandel and Riesling - to add sweetness. You'll skip this step if you're bottling a wine like Chardonnay which isn't usually sweet. I added a 2 pt sweetness to each; we were being cautious but it nearly isn't enough. Maybe it will be after aging, but not right now. The wines are good but still quite tart.
After Bottling:
The employees are so very helpful. Us girls couldn't have carried those bottles by ourselves to the car - trolley or not, there were a lot of bottles and our boxes and bags were super heavy.
Ankie tip? Reuse old wine bottles if you can. Although $1 isn't a lot to pay for a bottle, it's better to recycle.
