In town for a visit, thought I'd try something new. I heard good things about Tempest from friends, and I loved it. The decor is really unique, and includes a beautifully aged wooden boat and a fun clamshell for seating. I went for happy hour, and my waitress Lindsey was very helpful in showing me around the menu. (I'm a bit of an oyster novice, myself.) I started off with a great cocktail called a Tokyo Schooner made with sake and ginger. Delicious. My dining partner had an amazing bloody mary with cilantro vodka. She says it's one of the best cocktails she's ever had. We also had a couple oysters, which were fantastic. Very fresh. They really didn't need any sauce, but there was a house vinagrette with scallions that complemented them perfectly. But my favorite was the Smoke Stack, a great little stack of smoked trout, whitefish salad, and vegetables that was superb. The best part? It was so inexpensive! I'm looking forward to coming back when I'm in Madison again.
