Just left this K-mart and for the 3rd time now, checking out stole more than 10 minutes of my life. What's worse than the fact that they never have enough registers open to accommodate the flow of patrons is the temperamental attitudes you are likely to encounter while there. Not one associate greeted me, not one of the three times I have stopped in there. Today, I was on my way to a birthday party and I noticed that the registers were moving rather slowly - so I hopped on the customer service line as there was only one woman checking out and no line behind her, hoping that would save me some time. When it came to my turn, the "front end lead," Martina (Associate Number: 0033) asked if I had a return. When she learned that I didn't and was on the line to save time because the other registers had 3 or more people on them, she hastily exclaimed that I was on the customer service line (as if I was incompetent or unaware) and it was meant for exchanges. She relented to accept my presence, but not before telling the one man who just got on the line behind me that she would take him first since he had an exchange while I got my things on the counter (I was buying 6 items that were already presented to her on the counter). She had a condescending and miserable demeanor. Rather than get upset, I allowed her to do what she needed to do with that man and gratefully accepted her service afterward. During my transaction, Martina did not check for coupons for my purchase until she had already given me a total and I asked her to check. She found a coupon for me with my associated phone number and handed me my gift receipt. In spite of my calm and accepting demeanor to her unpleasant disposition, Martina then also exclaimed to customers on the nearest checkout line that she could take the next customer at customer service - exactly what I had assumed when I got in her line in the first place and clearly, to further intend to bother me through her insistence on the purpose of her register's line. I'm not sure who made Martina a "lead" associate, but her unprofessional actions are shameful both to the management at this store and the Kmart franchise as a whole. I will be contacting corporate after the birthday party I am nearly late for thanks to Martina and the predictable understaffed Kmart Store #3719.
