I really wish this museum had a permanent black history exhibit along with it's featured exhibits. This would make it feel less like it is just a black art gallery and more like a museum of black history and art. The bookstore has more black history teachable material than the museum.
I am sure artist would be willing to donate art work around a civil rights movement theme or a slavery theme that tells a story that our children and families could visit and be moved by.
The Levine Museum of the New South even has a small fraction of its permanent exhibit dedicated to the civil rights movement in an interactive way. I would patronize again no doubt for the presentations, fundraisers, social events and the featured black artist showcased exhibits however I was disappointed at the amount of white space and open space in the museum.
