2-part review (L&D, and food)
Labor & Delivery- Having my 4th kid (first time here), I knew what to expect with a hospital birth. I'm pretty picky and "Alternative" with what I want for my birth experience, and they were really pretty great about my requests. I didn't bring a birth plan, I just told them the important stuff. They are already almost "baby-friendly" so it was pretty easy to get what I wanted. My nurses were super awesome, and they let my 2yo stay with us at the birth. What I didn't like was my night nurse almost yelling at me in the middle of the night for having my nursing baby in my bed with me. Maybe she would have liked to hold him while I slept, but there was no way I was going to let him cry in his bassinet all night. Suggestion- Rolling a laboring woman through the hospital without a throw-up container handy was pretty annoying. That ride is rough on a mama.. and very nauseating! Another suggestion is for those who want to keep their placentas, for whatever reason, to take the week-long wait time away. Just give it to them when they are discharged!
Also- They didn't give my insurance info to the on-call ped and the hearing testing person, and I received bills from them, which is kind of annoying that I have to deal with 2 other insurance claims on top of having a newborn. I've never had to worry about that before with my previous hospital births.
Food- HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE. There was NOTHING for me to eat, besides potatoes for every meal. Seriously, you are a hospital. If I am allergic to wheat, and it says so on my food file, you should not give me wheat pancakes for breakfast- with a note that says I am allergic to wheat! It's a good thing my allergy is not deadly, and I really hope they read other people's allergies more carefully! There were no vegetarian meal options, no gluten free options, no dairy free options. For a hospital, I would have expected better, in order to care for anyone with allergies and dietary needs. ZERO stars for food.
I'm not having any more babies, but if I were I would probably choose another place to have them.
