I've had my account with Chase for more than 25 years. But it took just one visit to this branch to make me switch to B of A. The woman I had dealt with was rude, and when I called her on it, instead of apologizing, she got defensive and argumentative, and then topped it off with more rudeness. I called the customer service phone number on the back of my ATM card immediately, and said that as soon as I finished my move and got my direct deposit changed, I'd be closing my accounts. The lady told me someone would be calling me, but that didn't happen, which told me Chase gave not the slightest crap. After I opened new accounts with B of A, I went to a different Chase branch to close the largest account. The person there said he couldn't find any record of my complaint, so he keyed everything in, and said I'd get a call in a few days. That was three weeks ago. I've heard nothing. (Update: It's now several months later, and I never heard from anyone at Chase again.) Bank branches are dying because people do their banking online. So why someone who depends on a bank branch for their paycheck would be a bitch to customers is completely baffling to me. My direct deposit should be changed tomorrow, so I'll be able to close my remaining Chase account. I never bothered to try to leave Chase before because I had no reason to, and it was going to be a hassle. This bad experience made the hassle absolutely necessary. B of A made the switch a pleasure. They at least seem to understand the power of being polite.
