I came in with an apple fritter craving, but when I saw the creations inspired by Dominique Ansel's cronut, I had to try one out. I've had a few of these around town, and I definitely think Coco's version is the best! They make a few flavors with different glazes and fillings, and the texture is great. It's tender and buttery like a croissant, with a crisp exterior and really nice layers that pull apart easily. I saw chocolate glazed, strawberry glazed, and jelly filled, but I selected one coated with cinnamon sugar and filled with Bavarian cream. There wasn't a lot of cream because it is piped into the side of the pastry instead of layered like a cake, but I prefer the small amount. It doesn't call for a knife and fork that way, and the croissant dough is so moist that a ton of cream isn't necessary. The cinnamon sugar coating reminded me of a churro, so this was actually a churrsant. That word sounds really ridiculous because you have to roll your rrrrrrr's and then pronounce -sant like a French person. You should try it! Their hot coffee is decent, but not very bold. I had to add cream and sugar. I also picked up an apple fritter for my husband and some munchkins (doughnut holes) for my little munchkin. They make all the classic varieties and everything on display looked great and very fresh. I'm just surprised the neighboring police department went without a doughnut shop close by for so long.
