This place was pretty good. We saw the Siskind+Callahan+Sommer show and the humour show, which both had great moments. The space was really interesting, and the curators seemed to know how to use it well. It sounded like the upcoming shows at the museum were equally interesting, and left an impression that the museum is a quiet giant. However, I do get a little frustrated when small museums have gift shops the size of a whole gallery, yet don't seem to sell anything interesting. SMoCA is a textbook case of this. I'm used to contemporary art museums having a mixture of quirky contemporary design and overpriced wonderful art books, but the wall full of clocks for sale was about as good as this store got, and it wasn't very good. Oh well; I wasn't there to shop, anyways.
