Zephyr is easily my favorite bar in Downtown Kent. I don't think anything beats sitting on the patio as the sun goes down, drinking a vodka tonic. I'm biased towards giving this place 4 stars just because I'm so used to coming here over the years.
However, I want to write this review with an aim towards people who are not familiar with the Downtown Kent scene.
First off, the Zephyr does not serve food. There is a "walk-up" window to the restaurant Taco Tontos...but I hesitate to even suggest it. They are very slow and I have waited 30-45 minutes for food (ie. chips and salsa or a burrito) each time I have ordered. If you are looking for a bar with food, Zephyr is not the place for you.
Next, I wouldn't exactly call this place the epitome of cleanliness. Remember..it's a dive bar. If you are meeting someone for a first date, this might not be the best place if you want to impress.
Lastly, the upstairs...or "barnia" as it is sometimes called. I don't recommend getting mixed drinks from upstairs. Based off of personal experience, I have had many a vodka tonic upstairs that just didn't taste..."right". Of course when you ask the bartenders, they think you are trying to pull one over on them. But I really think it may have to do with the lines running up to the third floor. Always order mixed drinks on the first level!
Alas, I will always be a fan of the Zephyr despite its shortcomings. Check it out for yourself!
