I stumbled into Kensington Market by accident for the first time this morning (I am from Ottawa and was only in Toronto for a night before continuing westward). I was actually there for breakfast at Average Joe's, which I'd found via Yelp. They were late opening up so I ended up wandering around and found this lovely Bagelshop among the oodles of art that drenches the streets here...
My person and I each got a bagel sandwich. He had the corn beef and I had the veggie (avocado, arugula, brie, pesto). We both each got a coffee. While we waited for the food, we helped ourselves to the self-serve lemon water (a huge bonus in my books). Their coffee station was equipped with anything you could need, and agave in lieu of honey. The coffee itself was pretty spectacular... much better than any chain brand but that's to be expected.
The food... we were pleasantly surprised by a salad accompanying our sandwiches. Nothing fancy, but good. The sandwich was excellent - veggies were fresh and the bagel wasn't soft, unlike Ottawa's pretty famous Bagelshop, where the bagels often scratch up the roof of my mouth.
Oh, they have a screened den. I was so so happy to sit out there in the morning before it was too hot to bear, and breathe in the energy of this place. What a treat...
