You know when a place picks one thing to focus on, it's probably going to do a decent job of it.. Well the Pie Shack focuses on... you guessed it, Pies. I had heard about the place from friends, and often drive by it. One day last week I was finally convinced to give it a try. And boy am I glad I did. When you think of a Pie Shack, what do you think of? Well, I think of a little cottagey place with lots of wood everywhere, board games scattered around, and the lingering aroma of fresh pie baking in the oven... Well friends, I'm happy to report that's exactly what this place is! Ok, now when you think of a Pie Shack owner, who do you think of? I think of a grandparent-like personality, ever calm, ever caring, and totally patient and understanding of the uncertainty faced by your inner fat child, perilously debating between apple or pecan. Again folks, happy to report, this pretty well typifies the owner of the Pie Shack who served us that day. But wait, there's more. After a few minutes of deliberation I opted for a blueberry slice. I was given the option of ice cream on the side, to which i decided I would decline, opting to focus on the purity of the pie on it's own. After about 5 minutes of being slaughtered by my unassuming friend at a game of checkers, my pie arrived. And let me tell you it was a slice of heaven. You know how sometimes you try to eat the crust first, saving the fruity goodness for last. Well the crust was so good that this normal game plan went out the window. It was almost like eating some amazingly delicate artisan bread, that's how good it was. And the blueberry filling was amazing too.. not too sweet, and the blueberries were soft and whole, not squashed and jammy. This place is everything I expect and want in a Pie Shack, and so much more. I will be back long before my checkers game gets any better, thats for sure. 5 stars baby!
