I had a Muscle Biopsy done here today on my left leg. It was an outpatient procedure, I had to arrive at 6AM. I arrived 5 minutes early and they didn't take me to register until 6:20. Registration was easy and the lady who registered me was very nice. A volunteer took me back to surgery waiting room (which was dirty) and they called me back promptly. I was escorted to my room, given a gown, and got my vitals taken. After the vitals were taken things got weird. An RN came in to give me my IV, while she was doing it something tore and she made some comments about how she didn't know why that happened. She said it was in properly and left. My surgeon was late, but his brother who is also a surgeon arrived before him. He was yelling and refusing to sign some papers while standing at the counter in clear view of me. Totally unprofessional. I had anxiety to begin with and that didn't help. My Dr. finally arrived 20 minutes after the scheduled time. He shook my hand, marked my leg, and asked if I was ready. They took me back to the OR and the next thing I know I'm in recovery. I was in a lot of pain and the nurse was trying to get rid of me. She tried to talk me out of getting more pain meds because I had to stay another 15 min. for her to monitor me. I asked for the meds anyway. She sat next to me with her cell phone out while she was doing charting in the computer. Once the time was up she gave me my clothes and hauled me out. Once I got home and settled my husband and I realized the nurse blew my vein. I also have 3 lacerations in my throat from the laughing gas tube. Not cool. Some of this is par for the course, but in my opinion the hospital staff is there to make you feel confident and comfortable. In my case today I felt like most of the staff added to my anxiety. If you can avoid it you might want to think twice before having a procedure here. I personally prefer the Banner Heath Systems over Mountain Vista Medical Center.
