My wife and I had discovered online that BBVA Compass offers a money market account with a 1.242% interest rate. We went to this branch to open an account. We were told that the money market interest rate is 1.000%. We pulled up the BBVA Compass website on our cellphones and found the online listing of money market interest rates for Arizona and showed him the 1.242% for account balances above $10,000. He said that that's only for an online application and not using a branch. But nothing on the website giving the rates said it requires an online application without branch access. We showed him the BBVA website. He checked with someone and told us that 1.000% was all he could give. So we walked out. We don't care for the online bait-and-switch. I do give 2 stars rather than 1 star because BBVA didn't completely lie to us as we can get the 1.242% interest rate by applying and setting up the account online. But the overall taste in our mouth is that we'd prefer not to do business with BBVA.
