Stopped here today to deposit some cash and change my name on my accounts, as I recently got married. I waited in a decently long line (6-8 people) while two tellers worked their way through the customers. Once it was my turn, I informed the teller that I needed to have my name changed on my accounts and handed her my debit card and new drivers license (with current, changed name). She informed me that a banker would have to help me. So, I signed in and waited for a banker.
One approached me as I was signing in and told me someone would be with me shortly. He pointed to a waiting area (where there was a woman SLEEPING in a chair) and told me to wait there. I joked that it looked like the other woman had been waiting there a while. Instead of laughing, he looked at me and said "Yeah, she has." Awesome.
I waited for 10 minutes and the sleeping woman was called into a banker's office. I was excited that I would be next. However, the teller who I had previously spoken to then approached me again and asked me if I had my Marriage Certificate. I informed her that I did not-- I had my driver's license and social security card with current (changed) name. She then informed me that I needed to have my Marriage Certificate in order to have my name changed.
This is probably an appropriate time to note that I had called Chase Bank several days prior and was informed that I only needed my driver's license, as that was the documentation I used to open the account. So, now I've waited for nearly 20 minutes only to be told that they can't help me. I'll have to get my Marriage Certificate and bring it back and wait (who knows how long) for another banker to help me.
Sounds like it would be easier to just switch banks at this point... US Bank currently handles all my business checking needs and they only needed my driver's license to change my name. Hmmmm.....
