SCKS is a great shop. There is a huge selection of yarn and patterns, and it's staffed by lovely people. I stopped by on a Thursday night. I think there was a knitting group meeting that day, because the shop was full of people sitting at the communal tables -- knitting, eating, and telling stories. (Pro Tip - you can get food delivered to you at the store! The delivery person will come find you at the knitting tables!) It was my first time to the shop. I was visiting Vegas for a convention and wanted to get away from the Strip. SCKS was the closest yarn store to my hotel and I'm glad it was! The yarn selection was extensive. I was able to find pretty much any fiber in any color. Wool, cotton, silk, bamboo, alpaca... The shop was so big that they have sample boards of the entire color array for some brands of yarn. (Most of the yarn stores near me are pretty small, so I hadn't seen these before). I ended up purchasing 3 skeins from the sale bins and a crochet hook. The staff person who rang me up was so nice! I had asked if we (my husband and I) could sit at the tables and crochet, because I wasn't sure if the knitting group was a private event. She kindly invited us to join them. Also... There is a sign explicitly stating that the store winds yarn, but only full price yarn. If you want to wind sale yarn or to bring your own yarn, you pay a small fee ($1 or $2, I think). The woman who helped me (didn't get her name, but she had long, reddish-brown, straight hair and glasses) wound one skein for free because she "wanted us to be able to start our project right away." I could have stayed forever! But we left after about an hour because we had to go to the airport to leave town. I can honestly say that visiting SCKS was the highlight of my stay in Vegas. Any time I'm back in Vegas, I'm hitting up Sin City Knit Shop.
