Magnus just updated its menu when my husband and I dined there last Saturday. The food was fantastic. First, we shared fresh and lovely oysters from Washington State and the pickled fish appetizer, which was delightful - we ate every bite. I never tried pickled fish before and was a bit wary, but this is now one of my favorite appetizers in town.
I have always enjoyed the extensive wine list there and our Sauvignon Blanc was the perfect choice for the trout entree we shared. They cooked/poached the trout sous-vide (I think) and it was done to perfection; we loved the tender calamari and the salty seafood broth poured over the dish. We also ordered the Jarlsberg tart and were so focused on the excellent trout that we ended up eating it as dessert. The tart and sweet lingonberry syrup on the rich cheese makes a delicious appetizer or dessert.
As a woman with a serious sweet tooth, however, I needed to something from the dessert menu as well. The Scandinavian ice cream sandwich was divine - it may haunt my dreams with its pure deliciousness. Also, it came with a refreshing orange soda.
This new menu is thoughtful, innovative, and exciting. Everything we had was so tasty - we can't wait to go back!
