Having 'teppan' in the restaurant's name and description is misleading and false advertising. Upon entering we looked around and were surprised that not one of the teppan grills were currently being used. In fact, there were only two others eating in the whole restaurant. We were greeted and then told that I Sushi & Teppan does not serve teppan - not that they no longer serve teppan, but just matter-of-factly, "we don't have teppan." We were seated and then told that we could order a teppan-style terriyaki plate that's cooked in the back (kitchen). Okay with that, I ordered the filet mignon, only to then be told the one steak available was the New York steak (they were also out of scallops). I decided the New York steak was fine, as that was my second choice, and ordered that. However, what I received was not New York steak. It was not freshly cooked either, nor was it edible. The meat was so tough, I could not chew through it. I could not even cut it with the steak knife I requested. It was a choking hazard! It was fatty, plastic-textured and bad tasting. I was unable to eat it, and did not care for the rest of the food on my plate either.
The floors in this place were really sticky and dirty. The many unused teppan grills taking up more than half the restaurant were just weird. My child not being able to order yakisoba noodles without veggies or meat because they were "pre-portioned" led me to believe it was just another microwaved dish. Our waitress did give us a free mochi dessert to make up for the meal that I was unable to eat, which was a nice gesture.
Unfortunately, we will not be returning to this establishment. We had high hopes for this restaurant, as it had 4-stars in reviews. My husband said the sushi was just okay, and the service was just okay. So really, there's no reason for us to go back. I'm just glad we went to this place using a groupon and did not pay full price. My son and I both left hungry.
