First time staying at the Monte Carlo for both my husband and I. Check-in line was fairly long as they only had about 5-6 on staff for the busy Holiday weekend but it was also about 9:30pm when we rolled in. The lady that helped check us in was very friendly. We weren't so happy about the additional $25/night "resort fee". We should have asked what exactly does that cover... Because we didn't even have a coffee maker in our room.
Upon entering the entering room, there wasn't any "wow factor" with the room. It looked dated and worn. The desk chair looked like it was picked up from the local thrift store it was so banged up. Bathroom fixtures were gold... I'm sure these were "luxury" at one point in time but now they looked old and cheesy. Caulking around shower/tub was moldy. Toiletries were cheap no-name brand. My husband found a fingernail and a shard of glass on the floor. The glass would have been fun to step on barefoot. I have honestly stayed in Marriotts that were like 5-star rooms compared to this place. A positive was that the bed was super comfy. I just kept telling myself that we wouldn't be spending much time in the room anyways... Basically to sleep and shower so who cares if he room isn't the greatest, the money we saved by saving here can go towards having fun/eating/drinking. Oh yeah, and our room overlooked the pool- so we got to listen to the obnoxious BLARING music pretty much all day long. Go to the room to take a little recharge nap? Not a chance. Ridiculous.
Pool: unfortunately we didn't get to enjoy the pool as much as we thought we would... We came Memorial Day weekend and it was in the 60s with clouds our first 2 days. On our third day we lounged out by the pool for an hour or two. Chairs are right on top of each other... Literally, they could not get any closer together. It would be a bit awkward when it is so packed that a stranger would be squeezed up again you, staring into your face, inches away, if you were facing each other. Actually never actually got in the pool but nice to have options of different ones to go in. Not a fan of their extremely loud music which plays pretty much all day long... This isn't the Rehab pool at the Hard Rock. Turn that sh** down.
I like that there was a food court for quick snacks and meals with Starbuck's, Subway, McDonalds, Sabarro, Rubios, a stir fry place and some chicken tender place... But it'll cost ya. 6 inch ham sub from Subway was almost $7. Bottle of water from the newsstand was $4. Convenient, yes. Pricey, f**k yes!
The overall price and location on the strip made us choose Monte Carlo but I wouldn't stay here again. I would rather spend an extra couple hundred and stay somewhere nicer.
