My husband and I have probably visited the Spotted Owl a dozen times to date, and I have always enjoyed the well crafted cocktails and ambiance. The atmosphere is less pretentious than Velvet Tango Room. The Spotted Owl's cocktails are crafted with equal care but cost significantly less, and I appreciate that.
BUT, that isn't really the point of this review. The reason that Spotted Owl has earned my love and loyalty is because I am 8 and a half months pregnant and every single time that we have gone there during my pregnancy (whether at the end of date night, or with a group of friends), their staff have been wonderful. They are extremely welcoming, and when we ask if they could make me something non-alcoholic, they are always accommodating. Tonight, our bar keeper made me a drink with house-made granny smith cider, ginger beer, ginger syrup, cinnamon and several other ingredients, with a cucumber garnish. It was delicious and felt just as special as any of the cocktails I've ever gotten there. They weren't swamped, so he spent a lot of time checking in on us and made sure that I enjoyed my drink. When you are THE very pregnant, sober woman at the bar, this sort of care is really appreciated.
