I did not have a good experience with Dr. Harris. My mom and I went for a pre-op consultation and did not return to have my wisdom teeth removed. I was recommended to Dr. Harris by my dentist. The first thing that made us uncomfortable was that I was required to have another panoramic x-ray done, even though my dentist sent the x-ray to them that was taken the week before (they looked the same to me but still, I'm no expert). Thankfully we fought them and they did not charge us for this. After Dr. Harris looked at my x-ray, he informed me that I have five wisdom teeth and maybe more. Supposedly there could be little baby wisdom teeth growing as well. Additionally, he told me that I was at higher risk of permanent nerve damage since I waited longer to have them out (I am 21) and the teeth had matured enough to be very close to my nerves. Apparently we could have had a 3D scan done to see how close the nerves actually are to the teeth, but it would be pointless because it would not change how he operates. After this, we decided to get a second opinion. He gave us the name of another doctor simply because he likes the guy and this doctor makes him laugh. My mom proceeded to ask if he is a good surgeon, and not just a funny guy, and Dr. Harris responded by saying that sometimes its just as important to be nice and welcoming as it is to be a good surgeon. This set off more alarms in our heads. After this appointment, we went to another surgeon recommended by my dentist to have a consultation and I ended up getting my wisdom teeth taken out by this new surgeon. We did the 3D scan to find that I had about a 3% chance of permanent nerve damage and loss of feeling in my lower jaw, and that I actually only have FOUR wisdom teeth and a small cyst, contrary to what I was told by Dr. Harris. Lastly, at my pre-op consultation with Dr. Harris I was informed that I would not know if there was permanent nerve damage until after the numbness from the operation wore off, but the new surgeon told me that he would know immediately, while I was still in surgery and he was operating. This made me question Dr. Harris's skill level. Granted, I did not actually have my wisdom extracted by Dr. Harris so I cannot speak to how good of a surgeon he is. I just wanted to share my experience from the pre-op consultation as I left his office terrified. Also a quick piece of advise from my experience - try not to wait as long as I did to get your wisdom teeth out!! You increase the risks in more ways than one!
