Wikipedia defines Dive Bar as "An informal bar or pub. Such bars are sometimes referred to as neighborhood bars, where local residents gather to drink and socialize."
Instead they should've just written Dive Bar = Hattie's. I make frequent trips south to visit family and I always stop by Hattie's on the way down. No gangs, no bikers, no low-lifes. Just cool people, live music on some nights and while I haven't experienced it first hand, I'm told they have bring your pooch days as well. The bartenders know their stuff and the beer selection is top notch. The last time I was there they were building an outside area that wrapped around the building and local artists were painting the walls. I can't wait to see how the finished product turned out. And I can't recommend this place enough. Did I mention it's always easy to get an Uber to and from?
So whether you're a local or you're just visiting the area, if you're looking for a comfortable place to hang out and have a drink, Hattie's is the place.
