Was excited to try this place as I am a fan of its sister restaurant La Bocca. Been back a few times since and still have not been wowed but I figure they are still ironing out the kinks.
Ambiance is fantastic - modern and fun, love the indoor/outdoor setting on both sides of the property. The coed shared washroom is a travesty. The first time I went we were seated right outside the entry to it. I really don't need to see guys (and gals) adjusting their junk, washing their hands, applying their makeup, etc while I am eating. The ladies room stall I used just had random rolls of TP all over it, there was no actual TP holder. This was as of two weeks ago....hopefully it's on their list of things to do...So anyway, don't let them seat you near the stupid bathroom.
The food has been good, I have had the chicken tacos twice, they are mini in size but very flavorful and a good light meal. I also liked the guac and chips. The one item I will not be getting again is the Canteen Chopped Chicken Salad. No bueno! See my pic of this dismal looking and generally confused dish. House margaritas were delish. Prices are high-ish for what you get but I don't mind that because it keeps at least some of the students away :P
Service is a bit disorganized and slow. It seems like there is always confusion amongst the servers as to who has what table. And normally I don't nitpick like this but since my friend I brought from out of town also made this observation, I'll say it....What's with the schlubby "uniforms" of what seems to be white whatever-you-want? Some of the servers really look like slobs, others like hoochies. This place is gorgeous inside and has that step above casual feel - the look of the staff is totally out of place!
Overall it's worth a chance, and for me a welcome addition to Mill Ave for those of us who live in Tempe and are not 21 anymore.
