I was in here a few weeks ago with my son and nieces. The kids were SO excited to get "ice cream" on the Danforth. The gelato was fine, but this place will NEVER get my business again, nor will I ever recommend it to anyone I know.
The two guys working behind the counter were RUDE. RUDE. RUDE. I couldn't believe it. I was beside myself and the only reason I did not say something to them was because I did not want to spoil the experience for my nieces (too excited about the flavours to pick up on anything else). We had the simplest order possible with single flavour cones, and the guy acted irritated about every single thing. He seemed to be annoyed to have little kids in there (hello, do you know what your clientele is in this neighbourhood?!), and he was incredibly impatient with us and just about started to serve someone else instead of us. We barely took 30 seconds to decide what we wanted and it wasn't even busy, nor had he even started to make our first or second cones yet (we were ordering 4 altogether). After we sat down I asked for two cups for the kids so they didn't make a mess. The guy rolled his eyes and gave me one. I had to say "May I please have another, as I asked for two". He begrudgingly gave me another cup. My mom had paid for the gelato and even tipped $2 despite their rude behaviour, so I felt like saying "I'll pay for the cups - in fact you can take it out of the tip we gave you that you clearly don't deserve".
As we ate our gelato, the younger guy working kept sampling and eating gelato, taking huge spoon fulls and shoving them into his mouth. Neither of the guys working there even so much as cracked a smile while serving anyone, nor did they say thank you ONCE while accepting people's $$. Incredibly disappointing all around. I am someone who worked in the service industry for years and this type of pretentious attitude (I'm so cool because I work in a trendy Toronto gelato shop) is one that I just can't stomach. You are in the service industry - your job is to be friendly, helpful, and to make people feel as though their business is appreciated. These two punks should both be fired. I like to support independent businesses, but take your family to Baskin Robbins instead. That's where we'll be going next time.
