Everything I read on Yelp about John is true. He spent a lot of time going through my machine and educating me in the process. Even though I've taken sewing classes and have sewn most of my life there were things about my machine I didn't know. John fixed that too.
On the upside, I didn't have to pay by the hour. I didn't have to schlep the machine out to my car and fight traffic and be without it for two weeks. I didn't have to wait for weeks to get an appointment. John came to my house two days after I called him and charged a flat (very reasonable) fee. My machine sounds better than when it was new.
On the downside, nothing. There was no downside.
If your sewing machine is temperamental and on the fritz, call John. You'll be glad you did.
