My boyfriend and I went to the Speakeasy this past Saturday for their comedy show and it was ridiculously fun! To be honest, I was definitely not expecting the comedians to be super funny.. I guess it's the hater in me. I'm so glad I was proved wrong! Out of the 7-8 comedians 4-5 of them had me laughing the ENTIRE time on stage! It seems really rare for the majority of the people performing to be that awesome; I've never had that happen to me or even heard of that happening anywhere- even at Improv, Stand Up Live, venues in NYC.. The night we were there it seemed like the majority of people in the audience were comedians themselves. The few that weren't performing comedians definitely drunkenly (maybe a bit obnoxiously) thought they were which just added to the charm of a more intimate venue that allowed a lot more interaction. I'll definitely tell people about this place in hopes the next time we go (soon!) it will be full with people having a better time - with better prices- than the bigger venues. The only kinda lame thing I can gripe about is that the bar had last call 11:30.. maybe it was a slow night? maybe because it's a restaurant? But kinda lame when you're not ready to stop the drankin'.. but also not prepared for tent city.
