This is a tough one. Don't be fooled by the many hikers and trail runners who will zoom past you. This is an out and back 5 mile hike. 2.3ish up 1400 ft and back. The trail starts out with a steady incline the goes into unforgiving switchbacks. Then up and down over the mountain saddles to the thumb. We saw lizards and falcons nesting. It's a busy trail and not easy. But worth it. We started at 9am and was back to the car by 2ish. Bring plenty of water. It's remote so if you dehydrate or get hurt you'll be helicoptered out. We saw MANY people on the trail with zero or 1 bottle of water. In the desert heat, that's a death sentence. Don't do it. If it becomes too difficult turn around. It's VERY slick coming down with loose gravel. Wear shoes with decent tread. We are not the tip top hikers...And we made it. Just be smart and use common sense.
