If you are coming here to adopt, I'm not going to say anything to stop you. I adopted my cat Blinky from here and she's awesome, even though they gave her to me SICK. No worries though, because the initial vet trip is covered up to $500. My 1 star review is based off of my fostering experience. (Beware this post is long). I started to foster with the Animal Foundation in May of 2014, wanting to help out with kitten season. At first the experience was OK. I never got contacted by them until it was time for wellness exams or for the kittens to be returned to adoption. It normally took 1.5 hours to be seen during the kittens wellness exams, and that was pretty annoying, but still. Not the worst experience. Andrea took over the program late 2014. She was AWESOME! She always responded quickly and efficiently. But she left after a couple of months. This is where it starts going downhill, y'all. Two of my fosters have gotten really sick. One kitten named Timone was taken back to the shelter where they claimed they would run tests on him, but I saw him on the adoption page the next day. Confused as hell (since he could barely walk) I called them asking what was up with the kitten on the page? They said it was a mistake and he was removed the next day. I called back again wanting to know what had happened to him and they said that "there was no record of this kitten ever existing." What?! My second foster (named Marbles) got really sick overnight. We found her at 6AM unable to lift her head up. Since the shelter wasn't open until 11AM and we couldn't get a hold of anyone (tried the main line and the foster coordinators number) we brought her to a local vet and paid 600 into medical treatment for the kitten. Sadly, little Marbles was too weak and passed. I wanted to see if I could get reimbursed for the treatments since I felt like I had no choice but to bring her to the vet. The coordinator said no, I wouldn't get reimbursed. That's fine. But then she said that the shelter has a 24/7 skeleton crew in case of emergencies. I didn't remember seeing that anywhere, so I asked where it said that. She said the foster application. I said no, it wasn't there. She then sent my application from 2014 to me and what do you know...It DOESN'T SAY THAT AT ALL. So I pointed that out and she said that it was on the Animal Foundation website...I said WHERE? She sends me another screencap of the site...Yup, still doesn't say that. Really? Just admit that it's not there and fix it so that other foster parents don't have to go through the same thing I did! And that isn't the end of it. After my exchange with this individual another foster coordinator took over. She emailed all the foster parents asking for input and I shared this exact story with her... to no response. I even forwarded her the exchange. But ever since then (a month ago) they have been ignoring our e-mails, phone calls, and voicemails. My sister even volunteers at the shelter and has physically tried to get into contact with the coordinator to no avail. Rude! She was even able to look into the system to see the foster kittens we took in and half of the animals weren't even listed. Rude and shady. You would think they would want to respond to foster parents that actually care about the animals. The program needs new management, for sure.
