I started taking my elderly bichon frise to Applewood in January 2016 when I first moved here from Seattle. My Riley was almost 17 and we had recently also lived in a 45 foot motorcoach traveling the country for 3 years, so needless to say, I'm pretty experienced with different veterinary clinics. I found the staff to be genuinely kind and compassionate and conservative in all medical treatments, always giving me all my options. For such a beautiful vet hospital and pet resort in the heart of Paradise Valley, their pricing was surprisingly fair and in line with what I was used to paying. :)
They met Riley toward the end of his life and they treated him with such genuine caring, I felt they loved him almost as much as me. When his time was soon approaching, we discussed regularly the signs of whether or not his quality of life was declining enough that it was time, and I really appreciated their input and candor as I was having a hard time with not letting him go too early, vs letting him suffer unnecessarily. Having not had children, my Riley was my child, and nothing could possibly be good enough for how he would leave this earth. I decided to have Dr. Reeves and Jenna come to my home to end his life with the most dignity possible. I sang him my ni-night song repeatedly as we laid on the floor together while they gave him the necessary medications, and as horribly sad as it was, I cannot imagine it being a more beautiful way for him to leave this earth than with me and the two people who medically treated him and had come to love him.
It's been eight months now, and a couple of weeks ago I suddenly felt the desire to have a new pup. This morning we have an appointment at Applewood, and I cannot wait for Dr. Reeves, Jenna, and Lucas to meet my Oliver, as I trust he will be in the best care under their watch.
I cannot recommend Applewood Pet Resort and Animal Hospital highly enough.
