I have been going to this month since my son was born so about two months. We have had been for about four appointments so far. We usually see Dr. Allred who we love. She is patient, calm, and has a very welcoming feel to her. With that said our last appointment, two month checkup, we saw Dr. Garland since Dr. Allred was on vacation. Dr. Garland told us that my son was underfed and instead of recommending a lactation consultant to see what was going on, said that my milk was not fit and did not have fat in it which was why my son wasn't gaining weight. She said I needed to switch to formula immediately. I was not ready for that so scheduled an appointment with a lactation consultant to see what was going on. After meeting with the LC she said moms bodies make exactly the right milk their baby needs so it wasn't my milk causing this and also my sons weight is right on track for an exclusively breastfed baby and there was nothing to worry about. Dr. Garland was giving me incorrect information based off a chart for formula fed babies and not breastfed babies. The LC and myself were so upset for the stress and incorrect information Dr. Garland gave me. If I hasn't reached out to a LC and followed her instructions by switching to formula, my baby could have lost the opportunity of breast milk nutrition. I will be filing a complaint in hopes to help other mothers avoid being put in this situation down the road. Overall, I give Dr. Allred five stars, and one star for Dr. Garland.
