Okay because this is my 200th review I felt the need to throw it back, super old school.
Most people that know me well know that I don't really like Egg Tarts, I prefer Coconut Tarts (??). My favorite egg tarts are ironically the Portuguese perfectly brûlée top ones that they sell at KFC in China (shame level zero). However with that said my main concern when it comes to coconut tarts is the pastry crust as well as the color of the coconut filling.
I personally like white/minimally artificially colored coconut filling. I also don't really care for the maraschino cherries but whatever, it's a necessary evil with coconut tarts, just pick them off. Lucullus makes HANDS DOWN my favorite Coconut Tarts ever. On one fond memory during a trip to Toronto for a crazy party weekend, I dragged my hungover self to Lucullus to purchase three dozen coconut tarts to bring home and share with my parents. My fats were so happy.
Over the years with many moves I haven't been to T.O. as frequently as I would like but I still make Lucullus a mandatory stop! I'm a creature of habit and along with Fei Da in Chicago Chinatown, Lucullus just brings back great memories for me.... In the form of delicious pastries.
