We stayed here recently. At first I was scoffing at some of the reviews we had read as we drove up...it does NOT look like a creepy area at all, or so we assumed, it just looks like everything in North. We checked in, all was going well, and we start taking our luggage out of our car when immediately a homeless guy comes up asking everyone in the parking lot if they have any change to spare.
We talked to the guy at the desk because we were looking for apartments in the area - he suggests anywhere but the nearby apartments across the road, which he says are regularly frequented by police cars and ambulances at all hours.
The hotel itself is nice but the location is not ideal. Clearly they built this before the apartments across the way were built and the area probably went a bit downhill. Prices do not reflect the area, and I have to admit it makes me feel pretty guilty to pay so much for a hotel when people around me are so clearly struggling just to get by (e.g. the homeless guy). A night in this hotel would probably feed him for a month...
The stay itself was nice and the room was superb. The staff was sweet & accommodating, and even helped us out by scanning a document we needed. Overall, the hotel itself is great and facilities are lovely, you might even have a nice view of the mountains (and the Walmart parking lot, but whatever). But if you stay here, be prepared to be smacked in the face with your own $$ privilege, because you're going to look like a huge a$$hole for paying so much for a nice hotel in a shitty area.
