This has to be one of the best day trips from Vegas. It is about a 2 hour drive, on mostly two lane roads. There isn't much between Las Vegas and Beatty (Rhyolite is just outside of Beatty), but there is some nice scenery. On the day we went, the weather in Rhyolite was about 15 degrees cooler than Vegas (95 as opposed to 110). The ghost town is pretty easy to find, and when we went there were only a few others cars in the area, and from what we could tell, they weren't from Nevada. There is a lot to walk around and see, great picture taking abounds as well. If you go to Rhyolite, you should also stop at the Goldwell Open Air museum right next to the ghost town. There is some really unique art, and great people to chat with.
