I recently moved to Charlotte from L.A. and was looking for a good spot in my new neighborhood. My son and I saw the yellow sign and walked in. This was a month and a half ago. Since then, we've been back at least 4 times. I could go every week..but my son wants to "eat healthy." Yeah...good for you. The staff is always friendly..personable....with the charm that I didn't find that often at L.A. Restaurants. The first meal I had was the fried catfish with jalapeƱo tartar sauce and greens and potato salad. Loved the catfish..the greens were pretty good and the salad was okay...a little too much mayo though. Since then I've had the blackened mahi...it was just okay. I think it could have used a bit more seasoning. Every time I've gone, I've seen people eating the fried chicken. Finally yesterday, I tried it. I'm a dark meat person. It was great! I had a leg and a thigh. The seasoning was just right...the crunch was...crunchy. I had to tell the waitress how much I enjoyed . She said they have a to go box. You can call in advance..it'll take 1/2 hour or so. Great to know...because I'm always at the Arboretum I know what I'm doing this Mardi Gras. They have big Mardi Gras celebration (duh!)..crawfish boil...possible alligator meat. The waitress said its a busy, fu time. I can't wait. One last thing...on our first visit..one of the daily dessert specials was a cobbler...I forget which one. My son ordered. It was HUGE! Big enough for 3-4 people. I don't like cobbler so it was left to him to try to eat after his meal. I wish the waiter had told us that it was for sharing. Needless to say, my son couldn't finish and he's a big 21 year old. It came with ice cream..so couldn't take home. After all is said and done, Cajun Yard Dog is our fav neighborhood place to eat..and will be my go to place for out of town visitors.
