Secured reservation through Priceline which required me to pay at the counter. Went to pick up the car at 10 PM on 12/13/13, encountering "Cecilia" at the counter. After declining all options more than once, including their fuel option (I am a seasoned business traveler) Advantage asked for a $350 additional deposit (because I used a business debit card) on top of the $240.00 rental. Not an issue (although I will not go back to them because no other rental company requires such a high additional deposit), but when she presented me with the base rate, it was a few 40-some cents more than the Priceline price quote. I asked about it out of curiosity and Cecelia said " oh, it's only $.40 more" - almost laughing about it. Thought to myself, why don't you make it $.40 less or why don't YOU pay for it if it's no big deal. I let it go. Then she present a total card authorization of $650.00 which I questioned ($240 + $350 should be $590). She said "I accidentally charged you for the fuel but it will come off with your deposit". She showed me the confirmed base price of $240, but I wanted to confirm that she intended to "hold the gas cost of $60 due to her mistake. She became flippant and acted as if I couldn't reason the math, finally telling me I would get the gas deposit back when I returned the car. Told her I'm not about to let Advantage hold $60 for something I specifically refused. She said there was nothing she could do about it until I told her I refused to sign until it got fixed. She disappeared into the back and presented me with a correct total. Poor, ignorant customer service. Thing that irks me most was her attitude about nothing seemingly wrong with a higher price (it's not the 40 cents that makes me mad) than my Priceline quote. Clueless. I rent about 30 times a year and won't miss Advantage at all.
