We purchased a home from Ryland Homes (now CalAtlantic) in the northwest area of Las Vegas @ Verada View. When we found the community and toured the models we decided we wanted to do a contract and purchase a home. We were excited and thought we were dealing with a quality and professional builder. Our sales Rep was excellent, very nice and down to earth. We did our contract and were feeling great. Next we did our design center visit. Our experience at the design center was okay but quickly learned that once you made your selections there was very little flexibility with making any changes. About 2 weeks after our design center visit our home was ready to begin construction. We were from out of state and our sales Rep keep us up to date with the progress with photos about every 7-10 days. So far every thing was good.... Now here is where everything took a different turn. Our sales Rep called us and told us she was making an appointment for our walk through. We were concerned because based on the photos we were like there is no way the home will be done when she wanted to schedule the appointment. We were able to get the walk through pushed back by 2 weeks. We were assured that everything would be done and ready. We flew in from across the country for our walk through and closing. Well, just as we were thinking we arrived for our walk through and the home was not completely finished. The home was missing the refrigerator, missing all hardware on all bath and kitchen cabinets, missing mirrors in the bathrooms, doors that did not fit and close tightly, and several other issues. Also, the home was dirty with construction dust and not ready to be presented for final walk through in my opinion. Next, I will mention Ryland Home Mortgage and Title. These have to be the most unprofessional and incompetent people I have ever dealt with. First, their communication leaves much to be desired. We provided everything that was asked for promptly. Everything went quiet up until about 2 weeks before time to close. These people had almost 4 months to get everything together and they waited till last minute to seriously start processing the loan. I could go on but to sum it up we were 2 days from closing date and were still left hanging as to whether everything was ready for final approval. Also, the people I dealt with were very unprofessional from emails with bad grammar and poor sentence structure to poor phone skills as well. To add to our stress we were traveling from the east coast and had only 3 days in Las Vegas for our walk through and closing. We called Ryland Title to try to make an appointment for closing and they refused to give us a time stating they were still waiting on RMC to have the final closing papers done---SERIOUSLY----we were supposed to be closing the next day! We told the lady at Ryland Title the time of our walk through and she basically did not care. Get this --- during our walk through the lady called us and said we are ready and need you here in 45 minutes to close. I told the lady we were in the middle of our walk through and she was basically like how much longer till your done. I was furious but wanted to get this over with ASAP so I could stop dealing with these people. Overall we love our home and the roof top deck views are awesome! However, there are still some items that need to be fixed. We were told everything had been fixed that we told them about but it had not been so they basically lied and said it had been. We had to leave our key so they could still get back in to finish things that needed to be done because we were not moving in right away and did not live in town as of yet. There are still a few items that need to be addressed but we will deal with warranty to have the remaining items fixed when we have time. In closing I would advise anyone to avoid their in house mortgage company even though it is tempting for the paid closing cost. I would say use the money in closing cost for the design center and use your own mortgage company. Ryland (CalAtlantic) will rush you to close. I would not close until the home is finished within reason to your satisfaction. It was sad that a positive experience in the first half was turned into stress and unpleasant in the last stage of delivery.
