It costs a one-time $20 fee for lifetime membership. Members typically receive ~10% dividend on non-sale purchases annually. You can also apply for their REI credit card and receive a 5% rebate on all REI purchases and 1% back on everything else with no annual fee. Perhaps their only main drawback is a somewhat limited product selection. Over the years, there have been various items that I had to purchase elsewhere because REI did not carry them. Nevertheless, we find ourselves returning again and again for our outdoor recreation needs.
